Colin Kaepernick former NFL player takes a knee.
As everyone is probably already aware former San Fransico 49er, Colin Kaepernick has caused a lot of controversy by taking a knee during the American national anthem. Kaepernick taking a knee has split up North America in half, one side that's with Kaepernick and the other side who's against Kaepernick. This action caused so much disturbance that President Donald Trump had many comments on this. In my personal blog, I will analyze this whole controversial topic and see who's really right.
The reason why Colin Kaepernick decided to take a knee during the national anthem is that he believed that he shouldn't stand up for a country that oppresses black people or people of colour. Here's a quote from him that really explains why he takes a knee. "I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of colour," Kaepernick told NFL Media in an exclusive interview after the game. "To me, this is bigger than football and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way. There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder." With this brave move, Kaepernick started a movement in the whole league where players from different teams started to take a knee to show what's really happening in America instead of showing a blind eye. Most people were with Kaepernick when he sat down, but other people disagreed, and one of those people was the President of the United States.
President Donald Trump was not happy with Kaepernick kneeling because he said: "it's not showing love to the armed forces that fight for America." Even though I agree that we should all show our respect for the military, I don't 100% believe that this was the reason why Donald Trump was mad at Kaepernick. I think this is more of an ego thing more than anything. I feel like Donald Trump thinks that he's doing a good job running the country, so when a person exposes the flaws of the "perfect" country that Donald Trump is running, it probably gets to his head and that bothers him. When it's all said and done, everyone has their own opinion and whether you like Kaepernick or not, I really don't know what to say after that so this is the end of the blog.

ReplyDeleteRyan, I deeply understand where you are coming from. I feel like it was needed for him to take a knee because it was important for America to know how others were being treated.
ReplyDeleteThank you for this blog, Ryan. The use of quotations help to identify the issues. Well done!
